Take Me Down (II)
Second part of the series. You guys must think I’m nuts collecting all these pictures, but it’s actually a nice sunday morning activity. My favourite fighter is the Brazilian guy Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, it’s the one on the drawing. Is there anybody out there who can explain me the difference between MMA, UFC and cage fighting? (You see, there’s even an educational aspect to the whole thing.)
Lucha Libre Impressions
This is a gallery of my favourite internet pictures of mexican wrestlers. A lot of them I found on this webpage by accident and the guys with their colorful masks and funny superhero costumes impressed me so much that I kept googleing “Lucha Libre”, the spanish word for “Free Wrestling” and started to collect loads of other great pictures. I think I found a new hobby. Which mask/costume do you like the most?
Ben Aqua: The Wrestlers
Certain Death from Ben Aqua on Vimeo.
This is a video the makers of Planet Tampon have found on the webpage of photographer Ben Aqua. It’s called “Certain Death” and it’s from 2007: “Inspired by American pro wrestling promotional videos from the late 1980s and early 1990s, I developed my own series of wrestling personas, each delivering messages of extreme hate, violence, and hyper masculinity. This video addresses a view of pro wrestling as a fascinating calamity of simulated ultra-violence, consumer culture, and homoeroticism.” You can find the picture series here.
