The Whale Watching Tour / Sam Amidon

The video below shows footage of Bedroom Community‘s “Whale Watching Tour”, a show in which Nico Muhly (who produced Jonsi’s album), Sam Amidon, Ben Frost and Valgeir Sigurðsson perform each others songs together. I went to see the concert in Berlin yesterday and I can recommend it, although I must admit that it’s got it’s pretty exhausting moments (I’ve honestly never really been a huge fan of Ben Frost’s compositions), three tour dates are still left. I also again really want to recommend Sam Amidon‘s current record “I See The Sign“, which was released in April and features not only Nice Muhly and Ben Frost as guest musicians, but also Beth Orton. Amidon’s voice and his attitude really made the evening for me, the video below may give you a first impression of what I’m talking about. He is currently touring through the US and Canada.

Music Ticker: All Leather, Die Antwoord, Kele, Sam Amidon, Ariel Pink, Xiu Xiu

+++ The Southern Californian electro-queercore band All Leather and the Southern African rap act Die Antwoord have two things in common: both projects make music that most of the time is rather difficult to listen to, but at the same time both have pretty entertaining and bizarre videos. Check out All Leather’s “Mystery Meat” on BIGSTEREO (featuring a nice comment by editor Rchrd Oh) and “Enter The Ninja” and “Zef Side” by The Antwoord here and here +++

+++ Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke has announced a solo album for June. “The Boxer”, a co-production between Kele and Spank Rock member XXXchange, is announced as a rough electro pop record. Check out Kele’s website for the first couple of tour dates +++

+++ Folk songwriter Sam Amidon‘s second album “I See A Sign” has been released on May29th and since then can be streamed on the website of Bedroom Community. In addition to the awesome opener “How Come That Blood” Stereogum has now made the song “Relief” available, a cover version of an R.Kelly song. Click here to download it+++

+++ Ariel Pink and his band Haunted Graffiti have finally announced that they are going to release their first album on June 8th. It’s going to be called “Before Today” (cover layout here)+++

+++ Here’s another simple but effective video by Xiu Xiu (via Dirtbag Journalism / Pitchfork):

Music Ticker: MEN, We Have Band, Sam Amidon, Hype and Sick, The Presets

+++ Yesterday MEN have played a concert for an alternative cooking show called “Dinner With The Band” that is produced by the IFC. Seems like Johanna Fateman is not part of the project anymore and JD Samson found herself two nice new band members. You can watch the clips of the show here +++

+++ London-based Kitsuné-act We Have Band are going to release a new album in spring 2010. You can already download a new track called “Honeytrap” on their website. Click here for the video (via Big Stereo) +++

+++ And they are not the only ones: Folk-songwriter Sam Amidon has announced a new album for May 2001 co-featuring Beth Orton, Nico Muhly, Shahzad Ismaily and others. Click here to listen to and download his beautiful new track “How Come That Blood” that sounds as if Arthur Russell was reborn (via Pitchfork) +++

+++ The blog Hype and Sick I just found is a great source for new electronic acts, downloads of free tracks and remixes and most of it all: fancy videos +++

+++ Life Is Not A Rehearsel has posted this great video by Sydney-based duo The Presets today. It’s already half a year old but I think it’s worth being reposted here. There you go:
