Shunda K of Yo Majesty released her first solo album The Most Wanted this week (although that’s using the term “solo” liberally, as she works with variety of different guest vocalists and producers, including Snax, Cindy Wonderful and Electrosexual). You can download several tracks for free at her SoundCloud, including the single “I’m da Best”, which I described in my proud magazine best-of-2010 mix as happy hardcore gospel hip-house, as well as the Outkast-inspired “My Light”:
In my recent interview with Shunda (read the full thing at expatriarch.com or listen to an excerpt in Expatriarch Radio #11), she confirmed that Yo Majesty is not completely defunct as previously reported, and that the group’s new incarnation will be releasing in the near future. She also gave a heads up on “Three-way Freeway”, a forthcoming track in collaboration with Peaches and the Superions, the new band from Fred Schneider of the B-52s. Group sex while driving? Can’t they keep it in their pants until they see a faded sign at the side of the road that says “15 miles to the…”?
Catch Fire will take a break until December 20 – enough time for you, dear followers, to choose your favourite video shown on this site in 2010. Last year I called the voting “Queer Music Video Award“, but I’ve decieded to rename it, since (although I think all videos are queer in one way or another) not all the artists nominated this year actually would consider themselves as “queer”. You find all nominated videos after the poll below the jump or on this page. I hope you enjoy this kind of look back at 2010 as much I did when I did the preselection. May the best one win!

Tomorrow the premiere of “Peaches Does Herself” takes place, an opera through which Peaches is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut album “The Teaches Of Peaches”. The piece, which follows the artist’s fictional alter ego on her bumpy rise to fame is choreographed by Jeremy Wade and, according to dramatic adviser Eike Wittrock, features guest appearances by friends and colleagues such as Joel Gibb of the Hidden Cameras, Angie Reed and electro-rock artist Mignon. Prior to the premiere Peaches has posted two “Behind the scenes” videos on the blog on her website, here’s the second of the them, showing Peaches in a conversation with Wade and Wittrock as well as some dance scenes and parts of the stage design (I especially like the balloon installation by ballon artist Sean Rooney). You can buy tickets for the opera on the website of Hebbel Am Ufer, unfortunately the premiere is already sold out.
+++ Download “Sex Shooter and Other Stories…” the third mixtape by the hosts of the FAG YOU! party [Helsinki] (tracklist here, download link here, cover on top) +++
+++ Here’s a new song by by Girls which comes with a self-made video by singer Christopher Owens:
Peaches has nearly completed the collection of videos she has shot for “I Feel Cream” with several directors – still left are the songs “Mud” and “Show Stopper”. I’ve put together a little page on which you can watch all the videos and have a look if you may have missed one. My personal favourite is the one for “Mommy Complex” by Moop Jaw.
+++ Neon Indian have turned on their eighties generator again to remix Grizzly Bear’s “Cheerleaders”. You can ckeck them out the two results of this experiment on their MySpace page (via Pitchfork) +++
+++ Owen Pallet aka Final Fantasy is releasing a new album on January 12th. One of the new songs called “Lewis Takes Action” can already be downloaded on the label’s website +++
+++ The Younger Lovers have been interviewd by a nineties riot grrl/hardcor zine called Liquid. You find the interview on the band’s website +++
+++ Peaches‘ video for “Trick Or Treat” is definitely the most boring one in her series, but it makes sense considered that the track is also the most boring one on the album +++
+++ If Prince would be an indie rock band he would sound like OK Go. This is their new video (via Colin Quinn):
