From BBC Online: Researchers have found out that a certain Amazonian ant species reproduces itself without any sexual intercourse, just by cloning. A colony’s queen ant will reproduce genetically identical daughters. That’s why all members of this species are female. Valerie Solanas would have loved this. Here’s the article. Thanks, Georgina.
Meet The Phelps(-Ropers) Again
A friend of mine sent me this clip of an old Michael Moore show called “The Awful Truth” from 2000. I’m not really a fan of this guy but this video has actually its funny moments.
Pier Paolo Pasolini: A Mysterious Death
In November 1975 Pier Paolo Pasolini was murdered by being run over by his own car several times at a beach near Rome. Giuseppe Pelosi, a seventeen-year-old hustler was arrested for the murder and confessed. But until today the case remains unsolved, espacially since in 2005 Pelosi retracted his confession saying that he was forced to admit the murder by three people “with a southern accent” who called Pasolini a “dirty communist”. It’s also told that the Italian secret service did a strange intervention in the process of investigation. And there is also a theory that says Pasolini “organised” his death himself since there are parallels between motives of his movie and the way he died.Update: There used to be a poll here so you could vote why Passolini dies but the link is a dead end now and it doesn’t make sense to start a new poll. Meet The Phelps(-Ropers)
I don’t want to post too much right-wing/christian/homophobic/transphobic propaganda here but Shirley Phelps-Roper and her husband Fred Phelps are too crazy to be totally ignored. The couple leads the Westboro Baptist Church based in Kansas, a group that became quite popular in the US media because of demonstrations they did next to funerals of Iraq war soldiers. They believe that the defeat of the american army in Iraq as well as events like 9/11 are god’s punishment for the unholy american lifestyle. And they especially have issues with “the fags” which for them are one of the main reasons why not only the US but the whole world is doomed (Check out their website godhatesfags.com). It’s kind of entertaining how especially the charming Mrs. Pheps-Ropers leaves even conservative people speechless when she appears in media because her agenda is as evil and crazy as it can get (“Heather Ledger died for Brokeback Mountain”). But I wonder why a woman who is opposing the “western lifestyle” has got a double-barrelled surname.
A Tribute To Bow
Here you can see Bow in real action. What’s going on with He-Man we’ll discuss some other time.
Bow is the only guy in She-Ra’s rebellion troup. If you don’t remember him: He’s the one with the heart-shaped-arrows, the Freddie-Mercury-mustache and the leather boots. His best friend is a little rainbow-colored butterfly/owl-thing with huge ears. And he likes to play the harp and to work out. Honestly, I wouldn’t call him a real object of affection cause he’s also kind of dull (like all characters in this show). Still it’s fun to rediscover him. I also found a nerdy but kind of entertaining Analysis of the He-Man meets She-Ra movie. (Bow at 3:00)
This is a weird fan video I don’t get cause it’s italian.
And I think I have problems with the agenda of this video.
A Tribute To Wilson Cruz
Remember him? He’s played a guy called “Ricky” in the TV-program “My so-called life ” next to Claire Danes and Jared Leto. Ricky was the first gay character in a TV show I ever saw and he’s still definitely my favourite one. Wilson Cruz is one of the few Hollywood actors that are officially out. The photograph on the top of this posting shows him as a leather angel in Party Animal, it’s one of the few good scenes of the movie I think. He’s also the voice of one of the characters of “Rick and Steve” (a stop-motion-show I actually don’t really like) and plays a character in Noah’s Arc. And he doing quite a lot of workout as you can see.
