Yo!Majesty have released a new single called “Don’t Let Go” this week. Here’s the nice video, recorded in London. You find some good remixes of the song linked in the info field on the youtube page of the video.

YU Rock
Here are two weird videos of a rather unknown 80s-band called YU. If you wanna see more of their clips just visit their Youtube-Portal. I found the link on “The Awthun Empire“, a website of a network of artists from Austin, Texas.
A (Young) Rainbow Coalition
This is cute, it’s actually what I like the internet for it think. And Lilly Allen. I could watch it over and over again. I just forgot where I’ve found it.
UPDATE (03.06.): Here’s the French respond to the clip:
Painfully Beautiful Cover
Casiotone for The Painfully Alone played a really nice show in Berlin yesterday evening. It’s a relief that singer Owen Ashworth decided to play half of the show with a band although it seems to be only a project. My personal highlight of the concert was a cover version of Bruce Springsteens “Streets Of Philadelphia” that can also be found cover record “Advance Base Batterie Life” that was released nearly at the same time as the regular album. Owen recorded the song together with his cute brother Gordon who’s also into music (he openend the concert yesterday with an athmospheric drone/ experimental set) and who’s playing in his live band. Here’s a clip of the song performend live, too. Sorry for the poor sound quality. And no, this blog is not turning into a music blog. There are actually more “film” posts.
Samamidon On Tour
Young folk singer Sam Amidon is touring through ireland, the UK and Germany this May and June. It’s a pity he’s not visiting Berlin, but mabye I’ll manage to see him somewhere else. You find the tour dates on his Myspace page. His album “All Is Well (produced by Nico Muhly) has been released in spring last year, here you get an impression of him and his music:
Filling A Gap: Zion-I
Zion-I are my new hip hop heroes following the Cool Kids which were I think the only hip hop group/ act I really listened to in 2008. It’s a duo from Oakland and their music is a very entertaining mixture of oldschool and futuristic hiphop elements, their album has already been released in January. If found Zion-I’s new video on Kanye West’s blog and since then they’ve successfully replaced Lady Gaga when I listen to music at the gym. I only have one problem: I don’t really unterstand the lyrics. That’s why I can just hope that they aren’t embarrassing or even homophobic. But that would be untypical for hip hop from Oakland I think.
Good Blogs: La Blogotheque/ Krautboys
I’m going to present two stylish blogs this time:
-> La Blogotheque is a french music blog that became quite successful for it’s “concerts a emporter” (“take away concerts“) which means that you can stream and download videos of a lot your current favourite indie projects, bands and singers walking through Paris or other cities or sitting in flats playing unplugged versions of of their songs, filmed with a DV-camera. The funny thing is this actually works, most of the clips are filmed well and have their own special athmosphere.
-> Krautboys is a very pretty blog that features pretty boys, music, fashion and photography. It’s actually one of these blogs that don’t bury you in posts, but that’s still worth checking from time to time. I think it would also make a nice magazine.
They Call Him Soce
Ok, music is a bit overrepresented in this blog at the moment, I’ll try to change that. But for the moment let’s stick to the music-issue and have a look at the funny and trashy new video of gay Hip Hop guy darling Soce, I especially like for his song “I Am (So Gay)“. It’s actually no masterpiece, but who cares. I’m looking forward to hear his new album. And I also recommend the song “Brand New Day” you find on his MySpace-page.
Hunx And His Punks: Give Me Sugar
Garage Rock/ early Punk kind of music usually really bores me, but this is weirder, trashier, funnier and also queer. Hunx And His Punx is the band project of Gravy Train!!!-member Seth Bogart. They have alredy released several single records on which Seth sings with his nasally voice, posing slutty and cute on the covers. Their current song “Cruising” which was released in February is about cruising for guys but not really knowing which of them are straight and which are gay. The video is fun I think. And here’s the only article I could find about the band.
The End Is Near (II)
This is a viral marketing spot for the upcoming Black Eyed Peas album. It works perfectly as you can see. I hope this time they struggled a bit more finding good samples. Doing “Mas Que Nada” and “Pulp Fiction” was really corny.
Talent Campus: Nico Muhly
Nico Muhly is a classical composer who is working really hard on bridging the gap between classical music and pop music. I’ll not gonna call him a wunderkind because I’m sure he’d hate that. He’s someone I’ve been bumping into a lot of times in the last two years because he did a lot of collaborations with artists like Björk, Rufus Wainwright and Bonnie “Prince” Billie. Last year he helped Antony with the arrangements on “The Crying Light”. He has also already released two albums on his own: “Nico Muhly Speaks Volumes” (2006) and “Mothertounge” (2008). And he’s on his way to become a well booked soundtrack composer since he did the soundtrack of “The Reader” with Kate Winslet last year. I actually couldn’t find many great videos featuring him to post here, but I found a longer interview with him on eastvillageboys.com. The third of the postet videos is a music video by Samamidon, a songwriter from New York I can really suggest, Muhly played the piano on his album and arranged the orchestra (I hope I’m not sounding too nerdy here).
