Good Blogs: Dandy Gum / China Bu

My favourite blogs have always been the ones that work intuitively and that aren’t necessarily based on a concept but on the creativity and the open-mindedness of the people who run them (that’s also the reason why I like tumblrs so much). Nice examples of rather “intuitive blogging” are Dandy Gum and China Bu, two sites that both have a certain focus on fashion stuff without actually being “fashion blogs” in the classical sense. Dandy Gum is run by a writer called Begüm Sekendiz Boré, who in a very sophisticated way blurs the borders between “art” and “fashion”, while China Bu, run by a 19-year-old New Yorker all-round-artist called Robër Pierre, is a more hyprid, flashy and pop-culture-based. Please pay attention to the fact that both of these blogs are highly addictive.

The Work Of Collier Schorr (I): Wrestlers

This is the first part of a series of postings that will show works of artist and fashion photographer Collier Shorr, who I’m officially a fan of now. Shorr was born in New York City in 1963 and studied at the the School of the Visual Arts, New York and is especially known for her portraits of adolescent men and women which question simplyfing ideas of indentity, especially from a gender perspective. The pictures below are part of a series for which she photographed wrestlers, mainly of the Blair academy wrestling team. Click here for a an Interview with Schorr about her fascination for wrestling on Art:21 or, if you’re too lazy to read, just watch the video I posted below the photographs where she explains her approach. Fame Monsters’ Collaboration: Gagakoh

I guess a lot of you agree with me that the huge gab between the musical and the visual aspects of what Lady Gaga does artistically is her biggest weakness. A good example is this video of a collaboration between her and Terence “Asienpunkboy” Koh at a charity event in Tokyo: the performance looses all its charme as soon as the music starts and gets interesting again as soon as it stops. But maybe I’m just a bigger fan of him than of her.

Artists That Draw Attention (IX): J. Morrison

Lucile Puton: Hide and Seek

Lucile Puton is a young French fashion designer based in Brussels where she has studied at La Cambre, a famous architecture and visual arts school. Her collection “Hide and Seek” you see below was has been shown at this year’s Hyères Festival, an international festival for fashion and photography – as far as I could figure out it’s part of her graduation. The pictures posted here are taken from Lucille’s hompage where you also find some beautiful artwork connected the collection that gives an impresson of what kinds of ideas the whole thing is based on. You also find current pictures of the show at Hyèresby by photographer Shoji Fujii on the blog of fashion designer Diane Pernet. For some ANNOYING reason it’s permitted to reproduce them.
