Fanboy Of The Month Shooting x 2

With a monthly feature called “Fanboy Of The Month” the website and web community Fanboys of the Universe not only promotes itself but fandom in general by showing how charming and sexy nerdiness can be. And as you can see they have some pretty convincing arguments for this assumption. Click here for more good reasons.

Turning Trash Into… Trash: Jiz / Sienna D’Enema

John Waters would love this: Jiz is a spoof on the campy kids’ cartoon show “Jem and the Holograms” about a female glamrock band. The re-dubbed version turns the main character Jem into a violent drug addicted drag queen and everyone else into queer weirdos. The episode below in which Jiz turns out to be a huge fan of abortions may not completly have the drive of the older, shorter Jiz clips, but is still pretty funny. You find more Jiz-stuff and other rude re-dub experiments like the “Golden Shower Girls” on this YouTube channel. It’s run by a guy called Sienna D’Enema, who in this small interview he gave the online magazine Heeb turns out to be a film maker from L.A. who wants to stay anonymous but at the same time announces more of these kinds of clips.

Brian Kenny: In Black And White*

*Actually they’re made of gold, copper, holographic and glow-in-the-dark foil. I never believed the hype, but I quite like these so I’ll shut my mouth from now on. More of them on Mr. Kenny’s blog and on Slava Mogutin’s one where I found them (thanks for linking me by the way!).

Artists That Draw Attention (VII): Fredster

Fredster is an artist based in Paris, if you live there or if you’re from Brussels you may know him from the nice drawings he’s done for the third issue of “Le Supi” zine. He’s also part of the team that runs the “Mascara Disporder” queer music blog I already mentioned here. His drawings are minimalist and at the same time very detailed, I’m never really sure if they comfort or disturb me, but I think that’s exactly what makes them so appealing. More of them on his website.

Artists That Draw Attention (VI): Alfonso Casas Moreno

Although Mr. Moreno runs three blogs (1, 2, 3) it’s nearly impossible to gather any sort of information about him on the internet. The only thing I’m pretty sure of is that he’s from Spain, but where exactly I can’t tell (his Blogger site sais he lives in Barcelona, in this article of the Spanish newspaper “El Pais” i found on his Facebook page it’s the city of La Coruna). So let’s respect his right to privacy and focus on his drawings. You find more of them on Flickr.

Artist That Draw Attention (VI): Joapa

Joapa is the alias of a Brasilian illustrator called João Paulo Tiago from Belo Horizonte I discovered on my journey through homocomix (see below). I can’t really relate to all the stuff he has uploaded on his deviantART page but as you can see he’s pretty talented in drawing beautiful b/w pictures of cute hunky men (actually a lot of them show himself). So if you like the pictures below, click here for more of them.

Good Blogs: Homocomix

I spent the last hour scrolling through this tumblr dedicated to gay cartoons and artwork. It’s worth having a look at even if you’re the kind of person that for some reason is not into comic books. Here are some of my favourite pictures I found there (original sources below):

Bara Manga Online: Silence Of The Bears

bara

For some reason Blogger’s crusade against gay blogs with explicit contents especially seems to hit sites showing pornographic manga comics  really hard (one of the saddest examples surely is Gabe’s Yaoi Corner I recently postet here). Especially electronic versions of the so-called bara comics, a genre my flatmate just introduced to me seem to be pretty hard to find now. Bara is often considered the “real” gay manga genre due to the fact that the comics show very masculin (mostly pretty chubby) guys, while the more popular yaoi comics are mostly created and read by women. But it is not impossible to find sites that feature full-length bara mangas. Here are a few useful links if you have a soft spot for hand-drawn chest hair and cumshots.

Artists That Draw Attention (IV): David Gómez

metallica400

You may know David Gómez for his colorful portraits of celebrities and his friends. He usually draws them with with felt-tip pens as far as I can tell. I found out about him because he has contributed some of his stuff to Ticket To Hell. If you like his style I especially recomment his blog, on which he not only shows a lot of his work (which as you’ll see doesn’t only consist of the portraits) but also stuff of other nice artists. It’s actually been the inspiration for this series as you’ll see..

Artists That Draw Attention (III): Theo Firmo

Theo Firmo is born in Sao Paulo and today lives in Madrid. You find many of his minimalist drawings on graph paper and pages of old exercise books on blogs and tumblrs these days. Most of them show only of the outlines of the motives. Aside from drawing he’s also doing animated videos like a series of portraits that keep changing throughout a certain amount of time. This is the link to his website.
