FAKA: Glamour meets Subburbia in “Uyang’khumbula” (Video)

FAKA is a Southern African art and performance duo consisting of Fela Gucci and Desire Marea, who has been working on different mediums since 2015. The duo states that their work focusses especially on their “experience as black queer bodies navigating the cis-hetero-topia of post-colonial Africa” in order to find “representation of Black Queer Culture in South Africa, one that embraces the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and spirituality.”

In 2016 the duo has released their very experimental and drony “Bottoms Revenge” EP and have since then been invited to art and music festivals around the world, including the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, the Unsound Festival in Poland and the Vienna Festival. Their latest musical release entitled “Uyang’khumbula” is clearly more danceable and catchy, with a music video that takes the duo to a suburbian setting, where they rock their single in fabulous outfits by designer Johannesburg based designer Nao Serati. The perfect song and video to cure your summer melancholy
