Gus Van Sant / Zac Efron Interview
Gus Van Sant does interviews for Interview Magazine. In the latest issue he is talking to Zac Efron on the phone, you can read a longer section of the interview here. It’s funny to see how two people from different generations try to get together. But also not really much more. If you’re not familiar with High School Musical star Zac Efron the following video (I found posted on Dianocalypse) will give you a taste of his manifold talents. He’s playing in the movie Me and Orson Welles that is going to be released soon.
Good Blogs: La Blogotheque/ Krautboys
I’m going to present two stylish blogs this time:
-> La Blogotheque is a french music blog that became quite successful for it’s “concerts a emporter” (“take away concerts“) which means that you can stream and download videos of a lot your current favourite indie projects, bands and singers walking through Paris or other cities or sitting in flats playing unplugged versions of of their songs, filmed with a DV-camera. The funny thing is this actually works, most of the clips are filmed well and have their own special athmosphere.
-> Krautboys is a very pretty blog that features pretty boys, music, fashion and photography. It’s actually one of these blogs that don’t bury you in posts, but that’s still worth checking from time to time. I think it would also make a nice magazine.
Travolta Bulge
Here’s a clip of one of the most absurd movies ever featuring John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis. It’s supposed to be a sexy crime movie that takes place in the “gym scene”. But it’s actually not much more then an embarassing fitness video. Apart from this scene I don’t even recommend it from a trash point of view.
Auto-Erotica: Watch Out
Ever jerked off while staring at pictures of yourself jerking off? Then you should be able to identify with the hero of “Watch Out”, an independent movie that is released on DVD theses days. It’s an adaption of a book that tells the story of a guy who is in love with himself and who’s got a sexual realationship with a blow-up doll he prepares so it’s got his face. I haven’t seen the movie yet but it looks entertaining especially because it’s main character is played by a cute actor called Matt Riddlehoover (who I think makes the nacism of his movie charakter understandable). Here’s a teaser of the movie (you also find two theatrical trailers and dates for upcoming screenings on the website). Do you think this is a very gay phenomena by the way?
Battlefields (II)
“What What (In The Butt)” was a viral video featuring a song by singer Samwell who became an internet icon after it was released. Click here to see it (it’s crazy how many clicks it’s got). There is also a funny South Park adaption of it you also may know. There are actually a lot of versions out there I think. But none of them is as cute as this version, recorded by soldiers of the Israeli Army, hell knows what made them do it. But they seem to have fun. Or is it again just a viral commercial for Jägermeister-schnaps?
Good Idea: Shirt for Hairy Chested Men
Invented by David / Ironic Sans.
Disturbing In Pink: Charlie White For Adidas
I found this confusing adidas commercial from 2006 on “Art Fag City” (a page I officially recommend here once again). It’s directed by Charlie White, a L.A.-based artist who is working on examinations of the American society (Here is his homepage). Most of his works I’ve seen yet are dealing with questions of adolescence, (gender) identity, sexual desire and alienation. I must admit that I’m not yet sure if I really like what this guy’s working at but I’m willing to it find out. Let’s do it together and start here:
Good Blog: Gabe’s Yaoi Corner
UPDATE (09/12/09): Seems like the site is a victim Google’s policy to shut down gay blogs with explicit contents. Sorry, guys.
My original idea was to write something about yaoi-manga and -anime here because (at least in Germany) they have become quite sucessful and I think that they’re a strange phenomena. It’s actually a bit like slash literature – they’re gay comics with mostly androgynous protagonists that are drawn, sold and consumed by girls. But during my research I found this blog which is posting either yaoi and “real” gay porn manga and I got stuck on it because I was surprised how well-done and even sexy some of them are. I also like the range of types of guys and sexual practices. Or did you never want to know what it feels like to have sex with a tiger(-guy)?
Fighting And Dancing
Social practice in arts x 2: The first video I found on the great arts blog “Art Fag City” – it’s an excerpt of a performance that’s shown at the “Younger Than Jesus” triennal at the New Museum in NY at the moment. I must admit that I know neither the artist nor the musician but the video still impresses me although the quality is kind of poor. The second one is part of a video installation from Mark Leckey from 1999 that brings together the (here: dancing) styles of different youth cultures. It’s actually very short so you’ll just get a glimpse on what the whole movie could be. And again, the quality is bad, sorry. The whole piece can be seen at the so-called Boros bunker in Berlin.
